NAPA News - Week 8, Term 2, 2024

Welcome to another week! The days are definitely getting colder, but our winter uniforms have been ordered and will be here before we know it!

ROCK OF AGES TICKETS NOW ON SALE

Tickets to our Broadway Bound Extension class production Rock of Ages are now on sale. Please note that this production embraces all things 80’s rock and has some course language, sexual references, and adult themes, so is not suitable for our younger cherubs. I would say 13+ and any younger is definitely parental guidance recommended!

P&F TO HOST PREVIEW NIGHT OF HAIR - THE TRIBAL ROCK MUSICAL

We are super excited to announce that the NAPA P&F will be hosting the preview night for HAIR, Directed by Kim Reynolds and Amy Anderson at GCLT on June 28TH.

Tickets are now available via the NAPA website and all profits will go towards more amazing opportunities for our NAPA students.

Please note this production is recommended for ages 16+ and has themes of war, violence and death, drug use, racial slurs, nudity, and sexual references.

*THIS IS NOT A NAPA PRODUCTION AND IS BEING STAGED AT GCLT, SOUTHPORT*

CHOOKAS PERFORMANCE TEAMS!

It’s a big week at the studio with our Performance Teams rehearsing for our mid-year Concert. Our students will perform two sold-out shows this weekend, featuring all of their 2024 competition routines, along with some guest solos, duos, and trios. We can’t wait!

Miss Kim will be flat out this week preparing all the behind-the-scenes tech, costuming etc, while also juggling end of term NAPA College commitments, so please email Kimberley if you have any questions:

BPAC SUCCESS!

Congratulations to our students for their success at the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge. Our NAPA College student Jaeda (winner of the Senior Musical Theatre Scholarship) was invited back on Sunday to perform at the Gala, and she blew the audience away with her rendition of “My Days” from The Notebook musical. We are so proud of your growth over your time at NAPA, Jaeda. After 9 years at NAPA Jaeda will graduate this year and we are so excited to see what the future holds for her!

Congratulations to Jasmine Andrews, who in addition to her previously announced Finalist in the Senior Musical Theatre Scholarships, was also a Semi-Finalist in both the Senior Contemporary and Jazz Scholarships.

Congratulations also to Dakota Bolt who was a semi-finalist in the Contemporary scholarship and was awarded the Encouragement Award for the Jazz scholarship! This was on top of her already announced finalist position in the Musical Theatre category. Well done, Kody!

NAPA SOCKS ARE HERE!

Aaaaand they’re almost gone! We ordered 30 pairs, and they are already nearly sold out! We did not think our socks would be so popular! But never fear, we’ve placed another order and they should be here soon.

DROP OFFS AND PICK UPS

We know that drop offs and pick-ups can be tough with families having such busy lives, but we ask that parents please do not drop off young students any earlier than 15 minutes before classes, and please ensure you pick them up promptly after they finish. We do have our games etc for the kids to enjoy between classes but are finding more and more students being dropped off up to 45 minutes before their class starts, or being left for up to an hour after they finish. We do not always have teachers or staff around to supervise and we are also having issues with children disturbing our afternoon classes by playing loudly in the outdoor area. Our NAPA College students have school until 3.45pm and they are constantly being disturbed by students banging balls up against the walls of the studios and screaming loudly outside. We are also finding our young students are working themselves up outside playing in an unruly fashion, and then taking this energy into the classroom where they are also being disruptive and certainly not getting the best out of class. Please be mindful of this when you are planning your week and if you are going to be late to pick up, please call Kimberley at reception.

ACTING CLASS ATTIRE

We sent out an email a few weeks ago but would like to remind our Acting class students and parents that it is not encouraged for our actors to wear school uniforms to class. School uniforms are very restrictive and do not allow the children to move freely when acting. We love seeing our actors in their NAPA t-shirts, but any casual wear is fine with the exception of skirts and dresses. We also encourage closed in shoes, as thongs, sandals, crocs etc are also restrictive and unsafe for some acting exercises.

SUMMER SCHOOL - APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN!

We are so excited to announce that our Summer School program is back! January 2025 will see our Summer School combining with our adult theatre company (NAPA Ensemble) to stage the family favourite Annie. Auditions will be held in December for all students aged 5-18, and enrolments are NOW LIVE! All those who apply will be accepted into the program, however auditions will take place to determine roles and ensemble groups. See the full list of roles and more information on the Summer School page.
