NAPA News - Week 3, Term 1, 2023

Dear NAPA Families,

Welcome to all of our new families who have joined us this week. Great to see everyone settling in and enjoying new skills and making new friends. Some classes have now been closed off as they have reached their peak. Students wishing to join those classes will be put on a waiting list. After auditions, Tread the Boards classes will also be closed off as roles will be given out. Here are a few more photos and videos of classes as we wander through the studios.

Broadway Kids’ Production Announcement

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that we have obtained the Performance Rights to Disney’s Finding Nemo Jr. for our Broadway Kids production on:

7:00pm, 3 + 4 November 2023
2:00pm, 5 November 2023
7:00pm, 10 + 11 November 2023

Please Note Audition Requirements for All Productions

Auditions will take place towards the end of this term or the start of next, depending on the dates of the performances. For all production classes i.e. Musical Theatre (Broadway classes) and Acting for Stage (Tread the Boards classes) we require a CV that contains a headshot. We do this to not only help us with the audition process but also, so our students (and parents) get to know the requirements of a CV in this industry and that you have a copy on hand in case any professional work comes your child’s way.  Here is a standard template of what we require and how we want it set out. If your child is in a production class, please get started on these CVs so that they are ready when the audition date is announced. High school students will be able to do this themselves. If you are doing them for Primary children, please ensure you involve them in what is required so they understand the process as this is part of their training.

More information will be sent out regarding the specific requirements for auditions, but we have already had a few questions asking if children have to audition or have to sing. This mainly is to do with Broadway Kids but sometimes in Broadway Tweens and Broadway Bound. While we encourage children, we do not force them to audition. Some children are not ready to audition due to lack of confidence, and therefore, not ready for a lead role. So doing the CV is still a good exercise in learning a new skill and we still use it when grouping the students into their ensemble groups.  If a child does not want to audition then we can put them into an ensemble group according to age, ‘look’, and ability noted in class. If it's the singing they don’t want to do, then as most lead roles sing, they can’t get a lead role but there may be some acting roles in the musical where they don’t sing solo – this depends on the musical. If there is, they can then do the acting audition. Requirements of each role is sent out prior to the audition, so this is something you can discuss with your child. Please don’t ever underestimate an ensemble role.  This is a great way to learn stage craft, build confidence, develop characters and involves lots of dancing and singing.

Pre-Senior Tread the Boards Added Date

Due to the number of students in this class we have added a performance date to ensure we don’t sell out causing some people to miss out on seeing it. Performance dates are now:

7:30pm, 5 August 2023
2:00pm, 6 August 2023

UNIFORMS

Cut-off date is 23 February. So please ensure you order uniforms required by then as they do not take late orders.

ALBA’S LETTERS OF LOVE AND SUPPORT

For all of you who are writing letters to our darling Alba, please note that they need to be in by 23rd February.  We have a red box in reception on the small table for you to ‘post’ your letters. If you missed the information regarding Alba, please check last week’s newsletter which can be found on our website.

P & F and the Sausage Sizzle

This Saturday we will start back the sausage sizzle at 10.30am, much to the delight of our cherubs and parents. Thank you to those who volunteered to help. A few people have also expressed their interest in being part of the P&F committees. This year our P&F are going to form some sub-committees to lighten the load on our executive committee. There may be an area you would like to help with e.g. serving at the bar during shows, selling raffle tickets, organising some social events for our kids etc. If you would like to help out, please contact the Secretary of the P&F Danielle Sutherland by email: [email protected]

Lost Property

For our new families, please note that we have a Lost Property stand in the games room, behind the canteen.  Please check it on a regular basis. Currently there are dance shoes on there, which makes me wonder what some children are wearing to dance classes.

Business Call Out

We like to use our NAPA families businesses where possible. Currently we need an electrician and an air-conditioning servicer who would give us mate rates to do ongoing electrical work and servicing. Please email Laurie if you would like to help out. [email protected]

Have a fantastic week everyone,

Lynn & the NAPA Team
