NAPA News - Week 2, Term 1, 2023

Dear NAPA Families,

WOW, what a huge week!! It was filled with excitement, nerves, anticipation, joy and scorching hot temperatures! It was wonderful to embrace new students and try to help them settle quickly into their classes and form friendships. Some classes looked enormous but please understand many of the students were trialling classes. Musical Theatre classes are always big as we do large scale musicals, but we have 3-4 teachers on these classes as well as having four senior helpers. Once they are divided into their groups, there is rarely more than 20 in each group unless they come together for big production numbers. My favourite part in the week is seeing nervous children go into class for the first time and coming out with a huge grin on their faces. My proud moment was seeing our existing students go out of their way to welcome new students. A huge thank you to our teachers for making such an impact with their great teaching. With so many new families, we have been inundated with enquiries so our apologies if we haven’t responded to you – we may have missed your call or email, so please check in with us again if we have not responded.

Uniforms

Uniforms can be purchased online from your portal. Information regarding the requirements of uniforms is in the parent handbook.

Our dance attire is from Activated Industries and as they come from overseas, they take a couple of months to get here once ordered.  Therefore, we will need to close off orders on Thursday 23rd February, so I have the weekend to collate the orders and have them in by Monday.  Due to the length of time taken and the minimum requirement for orders, we can only do one order per year so please take note of the closing date for orders. Any stock we currently have will go out to anyone who has ordered what we have in stock, so some of you will get some items earlier. Performance Team members will have preference due to the urgency of being in uniform for upcoming competitions. The Basic Range which are the T-shirts and recommended for all acting classes, and the Boys Crew T-shirt and shorts, will only take 2-3 weeks.

Letters of Love & Support

We had some very bad news over Christmas. One of our beautiful students, Alba Scott, was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She was rushed to hospital and was operated on to remove the tumour. Alba is now in Brisbane at the Ronald McDonald House with her mum, Vonny, so she can attend physio every day to regain her speech and to be able to walk and hopefully dance again soon. This is a huge battle for such a young cherub and for her family. To cheer Alba up, and give her every bit of encouragement and support, we would like the help of our students who know Alba. We will create a little ‘postbox’ in the reception for children to post a letter or a get-well card to Alba. It will be greatly appreciated if you could support your child with ideas of wording that is sensitive to the situation. They could decorate their letters to make them look like a beautiful tribute to Alba. Sending loving words of support will not only be encouraging for Alba, but will hopefully help the children who are trying to come to terms with the battle their dear friend is facing, feel like they are helping Alba in some way. If you would like to participate in this quest, please have them in by 23 February so we can give them to her family on Saturday, 25 February to take to Alba.

Parking Warning

A couple of parents reported that parking inspectors were wandering up and down Stevenson Court booking anyone who was parked on the grass. So please be mindful of this. I know parking can be a nightmare, but we don’t want you fined.

College Orientation Week

A big welcome to our new college students who are about to embark on their journey to a career in the entertainment industry. We had a great orientation week prior to when general classes began.  They had a fun yet challenging day at Burleigh where they completed an Adventure Trail where they had to break up into teams find clues to answer questions as well as record themselves doing some physical challenges. It took around 3 hours, then we relaxed with a picnic lunch and a session of setting goals for the year.

Cats

Congratulations to all the students who successfully auditioned for a role in our first production for the year, Cats. This will be performed by our Broadway Extension Class.

Productions

Please note that all production dates are in our calendar on our website. Not all productions have been selected yet as we wait for classes to settle in so we can evaluate the best play or musical suitable for the group. For now, please mark the production dates (and eisteddfods for Performance Team students) in your yearly calendar so you avoid booking holidays and functions on those dates. Please also try and keep clear the month before a show opens as extra rehearsals may be called.

Sausage Sizzle Helpers

Feedback from many of our Saturday parents and students re what they miss about the canteen being closed is our Sausage Sizzle! This could be run by our P&F this year as another fund-raising activity. We usually have it between the Broadway Kids & Broadway Tweens classes 10.30-11.00. However, for this to go ahead we need volunteers that can be either doing it every week or on a roster. If you can help would you please email Kimberley at [email protected]

Have an awesome week everyone

Cheers,

Lynn
