NAPA News - Week 8, Term 4, 2022

DEAR NAPA FAMILIES,

This is the time of the year where we plan and begin our celebrations of such an awesome year of achievements of our students, teachers, and support team of helpers. We have so much to be proud of.

Congratulations Miss Jane and cast of So You Wanna Be a Cheerleader!

This was such an entertaining play! Our Intermediate Tread the Boards class did an excellent job in this performance under the guidance of director and teacher Jane Irvine who was assisted by our College graduate, Kaden Forbutt. With only 10 in the play, we were blown away by the large number of audiences – thank you to all those who attended and supported these young thespians. This class has a well-deserved rest for tonight’s class but will be back next week for their last class of the year. Great job cherubs!

College Graduation Dinner

Last Thursday night we had a celebratory dinner at the Glass restaurant at Marina Mirage for our three Year 12 students who have all gained their Certificate IV in Musical Theatre as well as graduating from Cairns School of Distance Ed. We are so proud of the accomplishments and growth of these three College students, Cooper Swain, Elysium Hipwood and Kaden Forbutt. Each one of them have had offers and call backs from various prestigious performing arts institutions. Once they students decide which one they will go into, we will make the announcement. Their NAPA family wish them every success in their future career.

Film & TV Screening night

Our FTV classes have been busy recording footage for our FTV Screening night this Saturday, 26 November.  We look forward to seeing their achievement and celebrating these with awards after the ceremony. Here is a reminder of who is involved and at what time:

4pm Junior Screening – Intermediate FTV class
7pm Senior Screening – Pre-Senior and Senior FTV classes

Lost Property

As we get close to the end of the year, it would be greatly appreciated if everyone takes careful note of these pictures and try to identify anything that belongs to your child. School uniforms and dance shoes have been there for a while – can’t imagine what they are doing without them, and those tap shoes sure would be handy with the Concert just around the corner! We would love it if you could pick up anything that belongs to your child ASAP.  It would be great not to have to sort and take them to the Salvation Army at the end of the term.

Awards

Thank you to those who responded to my email regarding awards and attendance, this is very helpful in making the ceremonies go smoothly. It’s important we know who won’t be attending and also who should be receiving a 5-year Award and a Graduation Award. We don’t want to miss anyone. Please take careful note of the dates, times and procedures in our previous newsletter, regarding our Awards nights.

Dance Concerts

Another reminder regarding tickets for our Dance concerts. The Mini Concert which is held on Sunday, 4 December at 10am and 4pm can be bought from our website. Our Inside Out tickets are being sold at HOTA’s box office seeing this is where it is being performed.

Information for dance concert hair, makeup and footwear has been emailed home. Please email [email protected] with any questions.

Canteen Service

Sadly, we will no longer be offering a canteen service next year We used to operate it on a volunteer basis, but it was hard to get volunteers and as there wasn’t continuity, some of our students would bring money to purchase refreshment but no one to serve and others didn’t bring money on days there was someone serving. This made it difficult for parents to rely on the canteen in supplying food when required. We therefore employed Kristie to manage the canteen, who has done an awesome job being there for our cherubs, but unfortunately not enough people are using the canteen and we have made a huge loss on it. We can no longer sustain this so we will not be opening the canteen next year. The bar for shows is run by our P&F so that will continue and the current canteen supplies will be absorbed by the bar.

Please Stay on Top of Information Provided

Please ensure you stay informed and record any details of upcoming events for your easy access. It’s important that we have all our families read the information thoroughly of what we provide. We are often asked question regarding things we have already communicated in the newsletter, which is very challenging at a time we are flat out with events. The newsletter is also posted on our website so you can find previous newsletters there if you delete it by accident. Our last week’s newsletter has details of every upcoming event so this is a good reference for you. In saying this, we are happy to explain anything you don’t understand.

Have a fantastic week everyone,

Best wishes,
Lynn & the NAPA Team
