NAPA News - Week 9, Term 3, 2021

Dear NAPA Families,

Happy Father’s Day to all our NAPA Dads and Grandads! Hope you all had a fantastic day! Only two weeks left of Term 3, yet a lot of events are packed into these two weeks. The last day of lessons for the term will be Saturday, 18 September, however, our production of Flesh will be performed on Sunday 19 September due to it being moved after Lockdown. Rehearsals and set constructions will be happening during the holidays, so still a lot happening at NAPA during these two weeks.

We are all very excited for the opening of Into the Woods this week. Performed by our Broadway Extension group, this fabulous production opens on the 10 September and runs on the 11, 17, 18 September. Chookas to all of the cast, crew, Director, Hollie Andrew; Musical Director; David Willis and Choreographer, Kim Reynolds. This promises to be a fantastic night with such great talent on stage. Only a few tickets left, so don’t miss out!

Whilst talking about Broadway Bound Extension group, we are thrilled to announce that we successfully applied for the Rights to perform the musical Chicago next year with our extension group. It is not easy to obtain the Rights for this popular musical, so we are super excited. Most of our productions cannot be decided upon until we work with the students within that year of the production, so we can see what suits them, but with the Broadway Extension group, they audition to get into a selected production chosen to provide the challenges at that level. So successful auditionees form that class.

Ticket Sales for Term 4 Performances Available from Tuesday

Ticket sales will open for Term 4 performances tomorrow from 9am. The only one that will not be available at this time is the Neverland Concert as we are still working on ways of keeping those prices down. Tickets for this will be sold from HOTA’s Box Office but we will let you know the date they will be available in the next couple of weeks. Our tickets sales go quickly, so please do not leave it for too long before purchasing your tickets. We are just crossing our fingers that there will be no more lockdowns that will affect these dates.

Congratulations Michael Bishop (Fryer)

We are so proud of our graduated student Michael Fryer, who has starred in the Disney movie Spin. It has now been released and we had planned to have a Movie Night for us all to watch it together. However, after the last lockdown, all our shows had to be moved leaving no date we could do this. This is a great family movie for you to watch at home. By the way, Michael is not English, so check out his great English accent.

KEEPING INFORMED

Please be aware that we stage in one year, 4 plays, 3 musicals, 5 concerts as well as participate in competitions and organise Award Ceremonies. This is more than a theatre group or dance school. The organisation behind all of this is a mammoth task, especially with the challenges we have had with COVID lockdowns and restrictions. We not only have to train the students according to the requirements of the show but we have to create sets, costumes, props, create lighting plots, sound cues, projections, organise rehearsal schedules, re-organise classes around rehearsals etc. etc. As each event gets close to performance times, please expect more emails than usual regarding organisation details and requirements. We prioritise the attention to the communication of these details according to what production is coming up next. This is the best way to manage it from our side of things and easier for you to receive the information in stages and in a time frame close to where action needs to be taken. We are working around the clock at this time of the year, so we must trust that you check your emails on a regular basis and take note of rehearsal times and dates to make sure your child does not miss out on these. Sending out reminders and chasing people up is something we do not have time to do in this hectic time and takes away productive time working with your child.  So please check emails on a daily basis. I cannot express enough how grateful we are to those parents who do this and make changes to their own schedules to ensure their child doesn’t miss out. Thank you.

Lost Property

Sorry to have to keep mentioning this every week but lost property is not reducing, the box now isn’t big enough to hold it all. There are single dance shoes in there – how does anyone not notice they are only wearing one shoe to their class?! I have lost count of drink bottles! Please, please make sure you or your child checks the box this week. We usually display them close to the end of the term but with our show opening this week, it is not a good look in the foyer.

Have a fantastic and productive week everyone,

Lynn
