NAPA News - Week 10, Term 3, 2021
Dear NAPA Families,
What a week this has been! With only one more week to go before the holidays we are packing in so much into these last two weeks, due to some changes of dates during COVID lockdowns. However, despite the pressure of staging so much close together, we are still achieving awesome results, as you can see in this newsletter.
Congratulations to our fabulous cast, crew and of course Director, Hollie Andrew; Musical Director, David Willis and Choreographer, Kim Reynolds, on an outstanding performance of this funny but challenging musical. This opening week played to packed houses and the feedback from the audiences was fantastic. For those of you who were lucky enough to grab a ticket, I am sure you had a great night of entertainment with such clever characterisation from the cast, comedic antics, and excellent vocals. Written by compositional innovator, Stephen Sondheim, whose musicals are well known for the complexity of his lyrics and music. Some of the underscores require performers to deliver dialogue at a remarkable pace. The cast rose to the challenge and treated the audience to a fabulous night of entertainment. For those of you who have tickets for next week, expect a great night out. Please be aware that it is a 3-hour show with interval included.
MORE WINS AT THIS WEEK’S EISTEDDFOD!!!!
Congratulations to these talented Performance Teams who competed in the final comp of Gold Coast Eisteddfod this weekend. Well done students and their teachers for these outstanding results, they won everything they entered.
10’s Small Group – Any style (Jazz) – 1st
12’s Acro – 1st
12’s Song & Dance – 1st
12’s Lyrical – 1st
Besides our last two performances of Into the Woods next week, we also have the play Flesh being performed by our Pre-Senior Tread the Boards class on Sunday, 19 September (a quick bump-in and bump-out). The play is being filmed at 2pm and the performance for our live audience starts at 6pm. This production has been very creatively directed by Claudine Anderson in a way that provides a fantastic learning experience for this group of students. Written by Rob Drummond, an award-winning playwright, Flesh is about a group of teenagers who wake up in a forest with no clue of how they got there. They find themselves separated into two different teams but have no idea what game they are expected to play. With no food, no water and seemingly no chance of escape, it’s only a matter of time before things start to get drastic. But whose side are people on and how far will they go to survive?
BUSY REHEARSAL SCHEDULES
With so many performances ahead of us we have had a busy weekend of rehearsals, and some will occur during the holidays. This Sunday saw a 13 The Musical rehearsal whilst our Intermediate FTV student were filming for their movie in readiness for our Screening night. During the holidays we have 13 rehearsals, Lion King rehearsals and more FTV filming. Students involved have been contacted by the teachers so please ensure you have these noted on your calendars.

RAFFLES
As per the email that I sent out this week, the P&F and directors have decided to fund raise through raffles to help pay towards the hire of HOTA for our Neverland Dance Concert. By doing this, we can reduce the cost of the ticket prices for our families. After my email, we were given lots of prizes to raffle.
Each night of the shows we will draw a couple of small prizes and then put all tickets purchased into one big draw at the end of each show and also at the end of our final show prior to the concert. I will keep you updated each newsletter as to funds raised.
Thank you for the kind donations for the Lion King raffles, to the following generous parents:
Each night’s prizes:
A scarf and mask designed by Hummingbird Designs and donated by Colleen Reynolds
A bottle of wine donated by Janneth Zarate Beltran
Final night prizes (from all tickets purchased during the show)
1 hour massage at Cosmic Pearls donated by Polly Diakonidis
Rejuvenate & Rewind Skin Body Basket donated by Melissa Lewis
Arbonne Mask – donated by Kimberley Janssen
All tickets will go into the final draw at the final night of Lion King as the major prize –
