NAPA News - Week 9, Term 2, 2021

Dear NAPA Families,

Our first student show for the year kicks off this week in the form of our Solo Concert and then it gets very busy from this point with our heavy schedule of productions and concerts. We are constantly asked about dates.  Please note that all dates for all shows have been on our website since the start of the year – check on the Playbill. Our website is our go-to spot for information. For new parents, it is important to note that our shows sell out quickly, so you need to get in early before people outside of NAPA grab tickets. In the past we have had some very disappointed parents who have missed out. Our shows attract community audience members as well.

Solo Concert

Tickets are now on sale and nearly sold out for our solo concert being performed this Saturday 19 June at 6.30pm where students receiving private lessons get showcase their talent on the stage of our Broadway Theatre. Performers, please note the rehearsal schedule outlined below.

4.00pm Dance students stage rehearsal

5.00 pm Vocal students sound check

6.30 pm Performance

Rehearsal/sound check is full dress/costume as photos will be taken during this time.

CAST ANNOUNCEMENT

Congratulations to all our students in the Broadway Bound class who have now been cast for the production of 13 The Musical. We are looking forward to seeing this production come together throughout the year.

Lost Property

At the end of each term, lost property either goes to a charitable organisation or if dance clothing, it is sold off our second-hand rack. We do not keep lost property beyond the term. Please check the items pictured below and if they belong to your child, please pick them up before the end of term. The lost property box is stored in the games room behind the canteen next to the fridge.

Winter Jumpers

We have had a few people ask to order winter jumpers, so we have put them back on the online shopping for one week starting tomorrow. If you wish to order either the blue hoody or the black jumper, please ensure you do this before Monday, 21 June which is when the orders will be placed.

NAPA Room Name Origins

It dawned on me last week when chatting to a NAPA mum that many of you don’t know the names of the rooms at NAPA or where their name originated from. So, I thought I might enlighten you. In case you were unaware, our company name is Broadway Bound Pty Ltd, as this is the pathway for some of our students. It therefore seemed appropriate to name our theatre the Broadway Theatre. The room off the area where the theatre is and above reception was aptly named Off-Broadway after the theatre precinct of professional theatre venues in Manhattan in New York City. In the Dance section of our studios to the right of the complex, the first room on the left is called 42nd St. This is because this room is built with flooring suitable for tap, hence why we conduct all of our tap classes in there. 42nd Street is a well-known musical where the main form of dance is tap. Our large dance room at the end of our building was therefore named West End after London’s West End where many theatres and entertainment venues are concentrated. Hope you enjoyed that bit of trivia.

Warning regarding parking

Laurie sent out a message last week re parking at other venues on our street. We have had complaints from our neighbouring businesses regarding our parents parking on their property. Despite his email, some parents have chosen to continue to park on other businesses’ property. One of the business owners has now warned us that he will be having unauthorised cars on his property towed away, so please be warned.

Senior Tap

Mandy Morrison reports that her senior tap technique class has been working very hard this year on furthering their skill set and technique within their tapping. They have been focussing on making nice clear beats and finding consistency with our skills. She is very impressed with their progress so far! Moving forward they are working on incorporating these skills into combinations and routines. She is excited to see their continued progress!
