NAPA News - Week 10, Term 2, 2021

Dear NAPA Families,

This is the final week of term with the last classes being held on Saturday, 26 June. Term 2 has been filled with auditions, eisteddfods and a great finish to the term, our Solo Concert. This was a sold-out performance with the audience being treated to a fabulous display of talent.  Our solo concerts give an opportunity for students having private lessons, to polish what they have been learning on stage for a live audience which for many, will be a great way to prepare for their upcoming eisteddfods. Congratulations to all of the performers and their teachers for an incredible performance!

Well done Performers:

Alecia Bishop, Alex Andrews, Courtney Sutherland, Dakota Janssen, Dexter Ryan, Ellie Dart, Emily Hayes, Emma Stratton, Evie L’ Orange, Grace Nean, Harry Reynolds, Indi Baskeyfield, Jade Goldberg, Jaeda Power, Jasmine Nean, Jessie Wallace, Lacy Henry, Lalita Zielinski, Lily Rose McKenzie, Lucy Bowyer, Madi Hirst, Maddi Longhurst, Maddie Terzis, Maddy Broad, Ruby McNee, Siena Mc Dougal, Sienna Cooper, Sophia Kennedy, Tori Aston, William Todd, Willow Cooper, Zyla Boyd

LAST WEEK 80’s FUN

For our last week of term, (Monday 21st – Saturday 26th) we are having an 80’s dress up. The 80s was the time when you can go over the top with clothes, accessories, and hair so we are bringing back that time. Trends were big hair, padded shoulders, statement earrings, sequins, footless tights/disco pants, neon colours, matching colourful tracksuits, coloured leotards and leg warmers, off shoulder sweatshirts, headbands, double denim (jeans and oversized jackets) fingerless gloves, leather jackets, combat boots. So come to class in your 80s themed attires. Dancers, please ensure you have your dance footwear and choose the aerobic style 80s clothing so you can still dance safely. If you can’t find clothing to suit, choose another fashion aspect e.g. the big hair, hairbands or statement earrings. We hope all of our cherubs get into the 80s fun. Prizes will be awarded to the best efforts we see throughout the week.

PRODUCTION & COSTUME FEES

Classes that have tickets on sale for their productions, have been billed for their Costume and Production Fee. These fees have been explained in the newsletter and in the parent handbook. Costume Fees safeguard the use and return of the costume. We mostly use a hire system rather than ask you to purchase costumes, to keep costs down for parents. The Production Fee gives you a link to a recording of the performance and professional photos. This fee is far lower than any other place I have seen charged. Most places charge around $60 for just a recording of the production. We have lots of outstanding Costume and Production Fees which have been put on your invoices. If you don’t see this on your statement it is because we haven’t billed you yet; we do this when tickets go on sale to stagger payments. We also do not charge for extra rehearsals, which many places do, we include this in your fees.

Please note that productions, particularly musicals hardly cover their expenses. The Rights & Royalties we have to pay to stage a performance averages around $3000-4000, then we have sets, costumes, props and music payments on top of that. In attempt to keep ticket prices down for our families, we forfeit profits.

JUNIOR TAP

Miss Alana reports that this gorgeous bunch have been working so hard on their technique this year and it’s really starting to show. They have spent Term 2 on clean sounds and weight placement. Currently they are focusing on turning, pickups and time steps. Parents you might notice a lot more tapping going on at home and down the supermarket aisles! We are all so proud of each and every one these girls and looking forward to seeing what Term 3 brings.

Grade 4 Ballet students

Miss Tahnee report that these students have been working hard this term. They have been focusing on learning our syllabus variations and going into further depth with our use of port de bras and expression.
