NAPA News - Week 8, Term 4, 2021
Dear NAPA Families,
What an incredible week it has been! We saw the final week of Lion King, celebrated our graduation of our Year 12 College students, the studio was busy with rehearsals for Neverland and plans were made for our Awards evening. We are very close to finalising our timetable for next year so hopefully this will be released with next week’s newsletter, and you can start enrolling for 2022!
Goodbye Lion King!
After two sensational weeks of performing to packed audiences who, by their reactions, have loved this show, we finally say farewell to this mammoth production. The feedback has been incredible and from the elated smiles from our kids, this has been a wonderful experience for them whilst at the same time extending their performance techniques, even to the use of puppetry.
Once again, I would like to thank all the parents who helped in some way – make-up, dressing room supervisors, raffle sponsors, prop making, bar work, costume washing and bump-out. A special thank you to mums Lea Murphy and Kate Bowyer for their work at every performance doing make-up, and to Erin Fitzgerald for her African-inspired dance choreography of He Lives in You. Thank you, Trina Power, for your set artistry and prop work assisted by Janneth Zarate Beltran. Thank you, David and Beau Reynolds, for the photos, and to Colleen Reynolds for making those beautiful unitards and for all your help with fittings and alterations. Thank you Michael Gaylard for your prop making and assistance backstage. Behind the scenes was our awesome current and past student helpers who are a great support to the show but at the same time are learning so much about what goes into a production behind the scenes. Thank you – Jaeda Power, Lucia Umpierrez, Charli Guest, Bella Janssen, Maeli Tapper, Jade Goldberg. Thank you, Zeke Whitecross, for stepping into the role of Mufasa and mentoring our students. Thank you, Thomas Bell, for not only operating the lights, but selling raffle tickets to fund raise for our cherubs.
Directing this show has been an absolute pleasure as I am working with an incredible team, especially Kim our fabulous choreographer, Steffi our amazing musical director and Laurie who creates the sets, does front of house and then runs around backstage to change sets and stage manager. WHAT A TEAM!!!!
Graduation Night
Congratulations Zeke Whitecross and Hannah Grundy Stuart on attaining their Certificate IV in Musical Theatre. Our Graduation night was very special as we celebrated their achievements at The Glass restaurant at Marina Mirage, a great setting for photos taken by our wonderful photographer, Trina Power. This week was also an extra highlight for Zeke as he was offered a place in Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) at QUT. Congratulations Zeke your NAPA family is very proud of you.
JUNIOR TREAD THE BOARDS PRESENTATION
This Friday, 26 November at 5pm, our Junior Tread the Boards is presenting some of their class work to their families. The presentation will be held in the theatre. No need to book, just come along and enjoy seeing your child and how they perform in class.
FILM & TV SCREENING SESSIONS
We are so excited to see these! Our Junior Screening (Ryan’s classes) is at 5.30pm and our Senior Screening (Hollie’s classes) is at 7pm, this Saturday 27 November. You can book tickets online. Please remember students do not need to pay for a ticket. We want to thank our teachers for all the extra work they put into filming the students and editing all of the footage. This is hours of unseen work, so a big thank you goes out to Hollie and Ryan. The screening will be in the theatre and projected on our big screen. Enjoy!
AWARDS NIGHTS
From a few questions asked there seems to be some confusion as to what Awards night your child needs to attend. We have two strands – Dance, and Acting (Tread the Boards, FTV, Musical Theatre). If your child studies both, they need to attend the two. For the Acting Awards it is simple, if your child is in High School – attend the Senior Awards, if in Primary School – attend the Junior Awards. Dance is a little different as some students are in groups above their age level, so Miss Kim will send out an email to all dance parents, letting you know which one to attend. Mini and Mummy & Me children will be presented with their certificates after their concert, so no need to attend the Award Ceremonies.
Please note that all children will get a certificate. On our website Youth/Calendar you will see the times of rehearsals and the ceremonies. All children need to attend the rehearsal as we will organise their seating and practice how they will receive their awards. Some students are performing as well. If they do not attend the rehearsal, we will assume they are not coming to the awards and remove their certificates from the pile so we are not calling out names of students not there. At the rehearsal we will be having an end of year break-up barbecue free of charge as it will be funded by our raffle proceeds.
Each year we theme the Awards Ceremonies. This year will be for everyone to wear a Christmas colour (students and families) i.e. red, green, white and/or gold. Our students can dress up as much as they like but keep to the colour theme.
