NAPA News - Week 5, Term 3, 2021

Dear NAPA Families,

What a week! So much changed since our last newsletter, causing us to do a lot of juggling regarding performance dates. Losing a whole week in our calendar presents challenges, so this week’s newsletter is devoted to focusing on the changes we have had to make.

But let’s start on a positive by extending a huge thank you to our fabulous teachers for their wonderful online lessons – they worked so hard to engage our students. A big thank you also goes out to Trina Power who uploads this content onto our website in such an organised and appealing manner. The feedback we have had from parents regarding the access to the content and the quality of the lessons has been incredible. Thank you everyone.

Now for the changes!

Please note these carefully and make changes to your calendars regarding new rules, events and performances.

Ø  Masks

  • All children over 12 must wear masks but can take them off when dancing

  • Parents and teachers will need to wear masks

  • All audience members must wear masks except when eating or drinking

Ø  Social Distancing

  • Some room changes may be made to abide by the social distancing rule of 1 person per 2sqm.

  • We can only perform shows at 50% capacity meaning we have to reduce our seating capacity. Hence, we will not be selling most Term 4 shows until closer to the date in case this rule changes

  • To help us with social distancing it is preferable, where possible, for parent to drop and go

Ø  Performance Teams

As you would all know from Miss Kim's correspondence, Get the Beat Finals have been moved from September to December. If you have not already, please head to the Performance Team Facebook group to respond to the poll.

Ø  Gold Coast Eisteddfod

At this stage we are still awaiting news from Gold Coast Eisteddfod about what is happening moving forward. Please ensure you are checking the Performance Team Facebook group and reading all emails to stay up to date with any news sent out.

Ø  Abigail’s Coven

The final performance of Abigail’s Coven will now be performed on Friday, 13 August @ 7.30pm after having our original date and our changed date cancelled due to lockdown. This is the only date left as our production of Flesh bumps in the next day. We have moved all bookings that were booked on 31st July to this new date keeping your selected seats (although less tables in the room). If you cannot make this date, please email Laurie for a refund.

Ø  Flesh

Is keeping their performance dates of 20 + 21 August, @ 7.30pm even though they lost a week of rehearsals – great job Claudine and cast. Extra rehearsals times have been emailed out.

Ø  College Cabaret

Has been moved to 9 October at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased online

Ø  Into the Woods

Could not afford that loss of a week due to the complexity of the show. We have moved the show to one week later i.e. 10, 11, 17, 18 September. Please note that if you have booked tickets for Friday 3rd we have moved you to Friday 17, and if you had tickets for Saturday 4 we have moved you to Saturday 18 keeping you in the same seats you booked. If this doesn’t suit, please email Laurie to make the changes you require.

Ø  College auditions for 2022 applicants

Will have to be brought forward to the 3rd September as we now have a show on the date previously communicated to applicants.

Ø  Movie Night

Will now have to be cancelled due to no Saturday night available after these changes.

Just a reminder of changes announced last week.  More detail is in last week’s newsletter:

Ø  Dance Concert

Neverland will now be performed at HOTA on Friday, 3rd December at 7pm. Tickets can be bought from HOTA’s box office once we set this up. We will announce when they go on sale in our newsletter. We are still working through strategies to keep ticket prices down.

Ø  Mini Dance Concert

Will now be on Saturday, 4 December @ 1 pm and 6 pm

Please remember all dates can be found on our website for future reference. Let’s hope there are no more lockdowns to spoil our wonderful Playbill.

Thank you everyone for your ongoing support. Although these are difficult times, it has been heart-warming to receive such amazing feedback and to see everyone adapt and make changes to make the best out of a difficult and challenging situation.

Best wishes,
Lynn

Some of our NAPA Zoom Classes in action

Thank you to all the teachers and students who embraced our NAPA Online experience this week!
We’re looking forward to seeing you all in class this week!

FLESH

Our next production is the play Flesh, directed by Claudine Anderson. So it’s time to grab your tickets to watch our Pre-Senior thespians perform on the 20 + 21 August. The play is about human nature, the tribes we create and cannibalism. It involves a group of teenagers who wake up in a forest with no clue as to how they got there. They find themselves separated into two different teams but have no idea what game they are expected to play. With no food, no water and seemingly no chance to escape, it’s only a matter of time before things start to get drastic. But whose side are people on, and how far will they go to survive.

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS FOR 2022

We have had lots of interest in students joining NAPA College next year. Please note we can only take students who are either going into Year 10 or Year 11 in 2022. This is a 2 or 3 year course. Applications close on 31 August. Once applications have been submitted you will be contacted with audition dates.

For those who are not sure what the College is about, it is a full-time course where students gain a CUA40520 Certificate IV in Musical Theatre conducted under our partnership with Australian Teachers of Dancing (RTO31624). Students will complete their senior schooling to gain their QCE through distance education. Their academic studies are supervised at NAPA as an extra service to free parents from home schooling commitments. When students begin this Nationally Accredited Training, the delivery and assessment will be conducted by NAPA.  We ensure that highly respected industry professionals concentrate on developing the required skills and provide opportunities toward students achieving their goals. If you need to discuss this further, don’t hesitate to contact me to set up a meeting. ([email protected])
