NAPA News - Week 4, Term 3, 2021
Dear NAPA Families,
We hope our happy NAPA news cheers you all up during lockdown.
EXCITING NEWS FOR OUR DANCE STUDENTS & FAMILIES
We are thrilled to announce that we have decided to perform our Neverland Dance Concert at HOTA!!!! After looking at the number of children in the concert, we could see it will be a challenge to accommodate so many children and the calculated size of the audiences at NAPA. We discussed how fantastic it would be for our cherubs to perform at HOTA but didn’t hold much hope that our dates would be available at this time of the year, but the Friday date is! We couldn’t believe our luck! Kim and I quickly booked in for a production meeting with HOTA staff to gain an estimated cost of performing there. The quote has come back and is huge which means ticket prices will be higher than if we staged the show at NAPA. Over the next few weeks, we will work on trying to get the prices to the lowest possible amount for parents without it being a big financial loss to us. It means due to the size of the audience capacity that we will only have one performance not the intended three, but we believe that this fantastic experience for our kids to perform at such a great venue will be worth it and the financial risk. If it proves to be manageable, we hope we can do this every year. To make it work we ask that you help by promoting the performance to as many of your family and friends as possible. But for now, let’s get excited for our dancers and get ready with your calendars to enter the following details.

MINI DANCE CONCERT
With our Neverland Dance Concert now being on the Friday, it frees up our previous Saturday, 4 December dance concert date. So instead of squishing the Mini Dance Concert on its scheduled date of the 27 November with the FTV screening night, we can now use the Saturday, 4th December for our Mini Concert and have two performances 1pm and 6pm. Miss Alana will let you know of rehearsal dates and times closer to the concert.
ABIGAIL’S COVEN
Congratulations to Scott and cast on a fabulous performance of Abigail’s Coven on Friday night. Sadly, the lockdown prevented them for performing on Saturday night, however, all being well, they will now perform next Saturday, 7 August. Cast please note that your scheduled rest week this Thursday will now be a rehearsal so you don’t lose your momentum and your rest week will take place the following week.
PERFORMANCE TEAM UPDATE
We are crossing all our fingers and toes that the lockdown restrictions are lifted in time for our Gold Coast Eisteddfod performances. In the meantime, we move ahead with our rehearsals and training as though they are. PLEASE ensure you are reading all communication and that you are a member of the Performance Team Facebook group, so that you are not missing out on vital information. Term 3 is a super busy time for us and there will be a lot of information to process, so it is imperative that parents are reading all information thoroughly. If you don't understand something, or are confused, our Facebook group is the perfect place to ask questions to other parents. Our NAPA P&F mums Danielle and Trina are always on top of things and are super helpful with answering any questions from our newbies.
While in lockdown it is the time to go through all costumes and ensure you have everything! We had a few missing items at the PT Concert, so please ensure your child's costume and accessories are all freshly washed and packed, ready for comp day.
Now that we have revealed our exciting news about the concert, I can also let you know that some of our Performance Teams have been chosen to perform in NEVERLAND. This will mean extra dance routines to learn and a fun (and busy!) Semester 2 ahead! We can't wait. But first up, Gold Coast Eisteddfod and Get the Beat Finals! Good luck cherubs and teachers.
COLLEGE CABARET
In their final year of NAPA College, our graduating students perform their one-person Cabarets. These performances are completely self-devised and a personal insight into who they are as performers and people. Performing a solo Cabaret can be quite daunting but is an amazing skill to have as an entertainer. Come on down and support our kids as they tell their stories through song. Featuring Hannah Grundy-Stewart and Ezekiel Whitecross, with special performances by our grade 10 and 11 NAPA College students. This year’s Cabaret will be on Friday, 6 August at 7pm. If you would like to come and see them perform you can book your ticket from our website. Prices are $10 adults $5 children/concession.
FLESH
Our next production is the play Flesh, directed by Claudine Anderson. So it’s time to grab your tickets to watch our Pre-Senior thespians perform on the 20 + 21 August. The play is about human nature, the tribes we create and cannibalism. It involves a group of teenagers who wake up in a forest with no clue as to how they got there. They find themselves separated into two different teams but have no idea what game they are expected to play. With no food, no water and seemingly no chance to escape, it’s only a matter of time before things start to get drastic. But whose side are people on, and how far will they go to survive.
LOCKDOWN
We hope you are managing to find the positives of being in Lockdown such as family time, chores completed and some relaxation. Teachers have sent through adaptions to lessons where required. Just a reminder, if no further restrictions are placed, classes will return at 4pm on Tuesday, please do not arrive prior to this time.
Have a great week everyone,
Lynn
COLLEGE APPLICATIONS FOR 2022
We have had lots of interest in students joining NAPA College next year. Please note we can only take students who are either going into Year 10 or Year 11 in 2022. This is a 2 or 3 year course. Applications close on 31 August. Once applications have been submitted you will be contacted with audition dates.
For those who are not sure what the College is about, it is a full-time course where students gain a CUA40520 Certificate IV in Musical Theatre conducted under our partnership with Australian Teachers of Dancing (RTO31624). Students will complete their senior schooling to gain their QCE through distance education. Their academic studies are supervised at NAPA as an extra service to free parents from home schooling commitments. When students begin this Nationally Accredited Training, the delivery and assessment will be conducted by NAPA. We ensure that highly respected industry professionals concentrate on developing the required skills and provide opportunities toward students achieving their goals. If you need to discuss this further, don’t hesitate to contact me to set up a meeting. ([email protected])
