NAPA News - Week 4, Term 4, 2021

Dear NAPA Families,

Saturday saw the final performance of 13 The Musical and Sunday the bump-in of The Game. Rehearsals and preparations are underway for our Neverland Concert, the Awards night and Get the Beat Finals! It certainly is our busiest time of the year!  Hope you are all enjoying the numerous performances we provide during the year.

We are so proud of the kids, they embraced this musical and put everything they have into it. Their success was evident in the audience response, our theatre was filled with laughter and applause. This has been a musical experience that has created lifelong memories. They bonded beautifully as a group and formed strong friendships that will go beyond the musical. The thrill of performing was very evident in this group, which was so rewarding to Jacy, Steffi, David and myself.

I would like to acknowledge our behind-the-scenes workers as often their work gets unnoticed. To the amazing Laurie Dyer who does all of our sets, creating whatever the directors need and working for long hours, as well as running our front of house. Thomas Bell spends hours creating our lighting states and then operating the lights as well as running our raffles. Kim Reynolds who operated our sound. David & Beau Reynolds for doing the photography. Ryan Littler for being our Videographer and Trina Power for prop making and creating our program. A big thank you to all our wonderful mums who operate the bar and to Danielle Sutherland and Janneth Zarate Beltran who collate and display the raffle prizes. Thank you also to our college students Kaden Forbutt and Cooper Swain who stepped into the role of two of the Goons due to the students who were playing those roles being stuck over the border. A great team effort!

CHOOKAS TO THE GAME CAST

The Game directed by Stuart Morgan and performed by our Intermediate Tread the Boards class opens this Friday night. This is an epic comedy/fantasy where two siblings get sucked into the world of video games, fighting crazy (and very funny) characters to save the kingdom of ‘Farnawee’ from an evil queen. The play explores the importance of family in the modern day, and questions what role technology plays in keeping a family together. Think Monty Python meets Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Hope to see lots of our NAPA families there to support these young actors.

HALLOWEEN DRESS UP WEEK

As we are leading into Halloween, this week our students can dress up in Halloween costumes to attend classes. If their class does not lend itself to costume due to the demands of the class eg acro, ballet etc – students could come with a Halloween-inspired hairstyle. Prizes will be given to the most original interpretations of the Halloween theme.

DANCE CONCERT REMINDER

Shoe and stocking requirements have been emailed to you so please take note of these. Costume invoices are now overdue.

COLLEGE EXAM SHUTDOWN

Our College students have an exam shutdown this week as they complete their academic exams and complete their Cert IV assessments. We wish them every success in these endeavours.

A MESSAGE TO BE PASSED ON TO STUDENTS REGARDING USE OF GAMES

It is wonderful to see our students enjoying our indoor and outdoor games in-between their classes. However, sadly some of our students are not respecting the equipment. We have seen students bashing the racquets on the ground, throwing balls off the premises, hiding racquets behind the storage container and leaving the equipment in the play area without putting it back.  So much of our equipment has been ruined already.  The time it takes to clear up after them is time-wasting for Kim and I who have more important things to do. It is also very disheartening to see the abuse of such a privilege and the disregard for our time, money and energy put into providing this activity. To get the message to every child, please pass on our disappointment regarding this situation to your child so everyone get the message and if our students continue to abuse the equipment and not put it away after use, we will remove the games from our program. I would like to also ask that parents who stay around while their child is in class and our senior students, please help us by being our eyes and correcting children doing the wrong thing and reminding them of how to treat our games.  On a positive note, I would like to acknowledge our wonderful student Lalita Zielinski who took it on herself to tidy up after some of our young students left lots of the games out with much of the contents dispersed over on the floor – look how neat she made it!

RAFFLE UPDATE

The season of 13 The Musical raised $720 in raffle takings which will go towards HOTA expenses for the concert. We will now look at the average intake from raffles and apply it to our final shows so we can estimate how much we expect to raise from raffles. This figure will be used to calculate how much we can expect to bring down overall costs so we can decide on Neverland ticket prices so that tickets can go on sale soon.

Thank you to this week’s sponsors of raffles:

  • Garbo & Kelly eyeshadow palettes donated by Carolyn Fox

  • Wine and Chocolates donated by Danielle Sutherland

  • Moet champagne donated by Deb & Colin Forbutt

  • Rejuvenate & Rewind Skin & Body Basket donated by Melissa Lewis

  • Express Headshot vouchers donated by Trina Power

  • Cosmic Pearls 1 hour massage donated by Polly Diakonidis
