NAPA News - Week 1, Term 2, 2022

Dear NAPA Families,

Welcome back to another great term of learning and development at NAPA! Hope you all had a great holiday. Just a reminder that evening classes are on today. We have lots of exciting things happening in Term 2 so please make sure all the dates of events listed in your newsletter and website are recorded in your personal calendars.

Q&A WITH COURTNEY MONSMA (ANNA IN FROZEN)

Many of you have been lucky enough to see the fabulous musical Frozen, starring our very own Courtney Monsma. Due to COVID restrictions we were unable to have a Q&A after the show with Courtney or even have a group photo with her. So, Courtney is coming to us on Friday, 13 May at 5pm to give our students a chance to meet her and ask any questions about the show or her career. This is a great opportunity for all of our students, so we hope to see lots of you there. Courtney is happy to have photos with anyone who would like to. To get the most out of this fantastic Q&A session, please encourage your child to come prepared with the burning question they would love to ask Courtney.

80’s DRESS-UP WINNERS

Congratulations to the following students who won our 80’s dress up in the last week of term. Not only did these students show a great effort in their costuming, but they consistently kept the standard of their costumes up for the whole week. Well done everyone, you looked sensational!

The following winners can pick up their prizes at reception from tomorrow:
Kaiya Hunter; Willow Wood; Arya Denzongpa-Bathols; Lucy Bowyer; Aneka Mitchell; Luan Fitzgerald

UNIFORM ARRIVALS

Two of the three boxes ordered have arrived! I contacted the company and they have no estimated time of arrival of the third box which has all the shorts and leggings in them. I am not sure why they have even come separately but post from China has certainly been a challenge. To ensure you have at least part of your orders, we have packed up for you the orders that have arrived and these can be collected from reception from tomorrow onwards. If you ordered shorts or leggings but have ordered other items as well, could you please take your order out of the bag with your name on it and leave the bag at reception so we can put your items that haven’t arrived in your bag when they do. For some of you, your order is complete if you did not order shorts and leggings. You can see now why we can’t order at any time as it takes so long to get here, and you need a minimum of 10 of a specific item to even place the order. On a happier note, they do a great job of the uniforms.

TALENT QUEST & MEET AND GREET TIME AND FORMAT CHANGE

We hope you are getting excited for our Talent Quest and students who are entering are rehearsing hard to ensure you give your best performance. We still have a few places for Senior entries, so High School students - seize this opportunity to perform. As we don’t have as many students enter as anticipated we have changed the times, so here is the updated information.

  • The date of the Talent Quest & Meet and Greet is the 7 May

  • Students can register for the Talent Quest from your portal.  It’s set up, so you buy a $5 ticket which is your registration fee to perform in the talent quest. If the act is a duo or small group act, its only one registration and the fee is still only $5.

  • In order to register click the ticket icon on your home page of your portal then follow instructions.

  • Once you have registered you will receive an email from Miss Kim who will confirm your place in the Talent Quest and ask for a description of your act.

  • The Talent Quest is free of charge to watch.

  • We will have our Meet & Greet Happy Hour from 4-5pm

  • The Talent Quest will be on from 5.00 - 6.30pm

  • The Meet Greet Happy Hour for our parents will be in the courtyard. During this time contestants will meet in the theatre at 4pm to do sound checks and for us to balance backings with the voice. Our Meet & Greet Happy Hour is an opportunity for NAPA parents to meet other NAPA parents and teachers. Drinks will be half price and there will be a few nibblies out for you to enjoy. We would love to see lots of you there to get to know you. Our wonderful P&F will be funding this and will be there to meet and greet you.

PERFORMANCE TEAM FAMILIES

With our first comp fast approaching, now is a great time to revisit the PT Handbook. This way you will ensure a smooth day and a positive experience for your cherub. Make sure you have read all of the information that has been sent out by Kim and that you have the items required for the performance (shoes, stockings etc).  If you have not done so already, join the PT Facebook Group here:

PARKING CHANGES

As you are aware there are only a few parking places at the studio premises. This can be frustrating for parents dropping off children or waiting here and wanting to find a park. However, with parents and older students parking on the premises, there are frequently no parks for our teachers who must start classes on time and often leave here late at night. So, from now on we are just making the few car parks we have, just for our staff. In this way we can park behind each other as we know who owns cars to back out when we want to leave. Thank you for your cooperation and sorry for any inconvenience.

ENROLMENTS CLOSED-OFF FOR CLASSES

Due to numbers and the progress of classes, we are no longer accepting enrolments into all classes except Dance Technique classes.  You can email Laurie to put your child on a waiting list for next year if you wish.

GO FUND ME SUPPORT

As many of you may be aware, NAPA Papa Reg (affectionately nicknamed) passed away suddenly in the holiday break. Reg was an incredibly kind man and always supported NAPA with his wife Di affectionally known as NAPA Nan. They not only have had their two grandchildren Bella and Dakota come to NAPA but the girls’ mum Kimberley is now working at reception for us and is the Treasurer of our P&F. Reg and Di have attended so many of our shows and eisteddfods and are so supportive of our students. Losing such a wonderful dad and grandfather is hard enough but on top of this death, due to financial difficulties they had just moved in together in a new rental unit the week before Reg’s death. As the family was depending on Reg working, they are now in financial crisis. We have set up a Go Fund Me page if anyone can help this beautiful family who is a loved part of our big NAPA family. Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated.

DANCE FOR SICK KIDS

Great job all those who have entered this wonderful fundraiser for such a good cause. NAPA will put in our donation this week to every child participating in this. If we have missed you could you please email us to let us know.

Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead

Lynn & Team
