NAPA News - Week 10, Term 4, 2022
DEAR NAPA FAMILIES,
WOW what a fantastic week of entertainment it has been! Our Dance Concerts were an absolute joy to watch. Although classes have now finished, for the year, we have this week to go before we finish, as we engage our students in Awards night rehearsals, barbecues and the ceremonies themselves. Next year’s timetable is now on our website and classes are open for registration online.
INSIDE OUT CONCERT
CONGRATULATIONS to all our dancers and their teachers for a spectacular dance concert at HOTA last Friday night. It was so entertaining and by the audience’s reaction and feedback, it was a HIT! What a great final performance for the year for our dancers as they certainly finished on a high. Having a storyline really adds to the entertainment value of our dance concert. This storyline was a great brainwave of Kim’s. Once we decided it was the one we wanted to go with she communicated to the dance teachers what she needed and then our dance teachers created fantastic dance routines that worked beautifully around the storyline. A big congratulations to Kim and our dance teachers on such a successful outcome!!! Another big shout out goes to Hannah Clark, our 2021 graduate who stepped into the role of Joy at the last minute when poor Courtney Sutherland broke her toe. Hannah learnt the routines with only two rehearsals with the help of Courtney and other students who were in her routines who came in for the extra rehearsals. Hannah approached this difficult task with such a positive attitude and confidence that makes us so proud of her. We are also very proud of Courtney and her mum Danielle, as they both helped backstage and supported the show in every way possible. This positive and supporting attitude from our students embraces the values of NAPA. We not only want to teach them performance skills but instil in them, professional work ethics, supportive and caring attitudes as well as good behaviour. Our kids certainly show this in so many ways.
MINIS CONCERT
Sunday saw sold out performances of our darling Mini dancers. Watching these little ones perform just melts your heart. Proud families in the audiences couldn’t stop smiling. Thank you so much Alana Andrews for her incredible devotion to our Mini Dance program. Also thank you to Tahnee and Greta who also teach these little ones. A Mini program cannot operate without student helpers as there are always kids who need assistance, even to go to the toilet. So a big thank you to Charli Guest, Courtney Sutherland, Jaeda Power, Izellah Connelly, Lucia Umpierrez, Lily Rose McKenzie, Dakota Payne, Lulu King-Edeborg, Lalita Zielinski and also our soloist dancers that performed. After the concert the children were awarded with their Mini medals so they do not need to come to the Junior Awards ceremony unless they were in Broadway Kids and wish to receive their production certificate on stage. If not, we will save their certificate for you to pick up at a later date.
GOLD PALM THEATRE AWARDS WINNERS
Congratulations to the Chicago cast and crew on last night’s wins at the Gold Palm Theatre Awards!
The cherubs also performed Razzle Dazzle for the opening number and smashed it!
Thank you Gold Palm Theatre Awards!
AWARDS CEREMONIES
This will dominate this week’s activities. Following the rehearsal there will be a barbecue of burgers and Christmas fun. For the Awards ceremony we ask the kids to dress up in something Christmassy.
At the ceremonies we will be selling raffle tickets for some huge prizes – some are up to $600 in value. We will have students selling them as the funding will benefit them next year with our P&F using the money to purchase extra resources and equipment for them. So please bring some cash to purchase the tickets as we only have one P&F Eftpos machine. Don’t miss out on the chance to win some great prizes. We will draw half of the prizes at the Junior ceremony and the other in the Senior.
Just a reminder:
The Junior Awards rehearsal will be on Tuesday 6 December from 4-7.00pm and their Awards ceremony is on Friday 9 December from 6.30pm to approx. 8.30pm
The Senior Awards rehearsal will be on Wednesday 7 December from 4-7.00pm and their Awards ceremony on Saturday 10 December from 6.30pm to approx. 8.30pm.
SPECIAL MENTIONS - ThANK YOU
As we draw close to the end of the year, we wish to thank some of behind-the-scene workers:
Colleen Reynolds - Costumes
For all our shows, we buy some of the costumes and recycle some, but quite a few are created by Colleen Reynolds. Thank you, Colleen, for all your hard work and creativity. With so many shows on during the year, Colleen has only very short notice, so must work in a very short time frame and under a lot of pressure. We value the great work she does.
Laurie Dyer – Sets
Laurie does a magnificent job of the sets. With back-to-back shows, there is little time to create sets and due to the short time frame, they frequently need to be representational rather than a detailed set. Laurie works around the clock to ensure the set is ready for the final rehearsals, meets all the directors’ requirements and looking great. Thank you, Laurie!
Trina Power – Publicity
Trina is a vital part of our NAPA family. She keeps the website up to date, takes incredible photos for publicity and memories, publishes the newsletter, does artistic work on our sets and creates all of the certificates for our Awards. Trina’s dedication, passion and creativity is greatly appreciated.
David & Beau Reynolds – Photography
For all our shows, David and Beau take magnificent photos that capture expressions and important moments in our productions that provides wonderful lifelong memories for our NAPA families. Thank you guys!
Thomas Bell – Lighting
Thomas joined us when he was still at school wanting to learn about lighting. He surpassed what we could teach him with his inquisitive mind and now is able to create the lighting states that the directors are looking for. Thomas now works at HOTA as well, so we were lucky enough to have him operate the lighting for our dance concert. I am sure you have met Thomas when selling raffle tickets. Thank you, Thomas for all your great work and dedication to NAPA.
Helpers
Thank you to all the parents who help us in some way. Support is shown in so many ways: donating raffle prizes, helping on the bar or canteen, helping with costumes and sets whether it be creating, transporting or even washing costumes. We especially want to thank our P&F Team – Janneth Zarate, Kimberley Janssen, Danielle Sutherland and Trina Power, you guys are such an important part of supporting our cherubs. A big thank you to our student helpers who assist with classes, we are so proud of you and the kids love you.
Best wishes,
Lynn & the fabulous NAPA Team
