NAPA News - Week 10, Term 4, 2021

Merry Christmas to all of our NAPA Families!!!!!

This will be the last newsletter of the year but we still have lots of information for you to read and take note. But let us start with the many congratulations for this week’s performances.

NEVERLAND

Wow!!!! Our dance concert performed at HOTA on Friday night was a huge success and that is not just our opinion, but that of the overjoyed families who absolutely LOVED it. We heard feedback such as, “I didn’t want it to end,” “such a professional show,” “best dance concert I have ever seen,” with many more comments in a similar vein. And judging by the applause and voices of appreciation, everyone had a fabulous night.

Kim and I never wanted to stage a regular dance concert like you see at other dance schools. We started as a musical theatre academy and value the importance of a storyline through dance. Kim has cleverly intertwined a ‘story’ each year to incorporate every dance class and style. This gives the teachers a basis to weave their magic into some incredibly creative and entertaining choreography. This is a perfect time to say “thank you” to our talented dance teachers who go above and beyond their regular teaching to get the best out of our students. We are equally proud of our students, they executed the choreography given, beautifully on stage, and their behaviour backstage and in the wings was exemplarily. Great job everyone! We covered our cost so will be making our HOTA Dance concert a regular event.

MINI CONCERT

Congratulations Miss Alana on her fantastic work with our Mini Program and in bringing these little cuties to the point of being on stage to perform in front of an audience at our Mini Concert. Watching these little ones start off on their performance journey in such a positive way is a sheer joy. A huge thank you goes out to our College students as well as Courtney Sutherland, Jaeda Power, and Lucia Umpierrez who mentor these young ones by assisting Alana in the class and Jordan Brinsley and Bella Janssen who also helped with the concert.

AWARD CEREMONIES & REHEARSALS

Please take note of the requirements for this. I have communicated this in previous newsletters but will write it out again as we don’t want anyone to miss out on their award. Please check this version out as I have added an extra half hour to the senior rehearsal as I noticed we only had the rehearsal for an hour. It is important everyone attends the rehearsals for the following reasons:

  1. We will work out who is not attending (if they are not at rehearsal, we will assume they won’t be at the Awards) so we can take out their awards so that we are not reading lots of names of students not there.

  2. To ensure the ceremony runs smoothly and quickly we will rehearse the order of getting on and off the stage and where to stand etc

  3. The last 45 minutes of the rehearsal will be devoted to an end of year celebration.  The P & F will provide a barbecue for the kids, so no need to feed them that night and a special guest will come to visit them.

The Awards given out will firstly be a Participation Award that everyone receives. We then have Bronze, Silver and Gold Studio Spirit Awards which takes into consideration attitude, effort, behaviour and performance levels across all classes they attend. For Seniors we also have Graduation Awards.

For the actual ceremony, please remember that Primary grade students attend Junior Ceremonies and High School, Senior ceremonies, and for Dance Awards you should have received an email from Miss Kim that had information on which awards your child attends (eg U8’s and U10’s – Junior, U12’s, U15’s and Opens – Senior). Please note that if your child does a dance class and one of the acting classes, they will need to attend two ceremonies. Sorry to do this but we can’t fit everyone into the theatre for one big ceremony.

To get into the end of year Christmas spirit it would be great if everyone dressed in Christmas colours, this might include your favourite Christmas outfits.

Here are the times again:

7 December 5-7 pm Senior Awards rehearsal & barbecue

8 December 5-7 pm Junior Awards rehearsal & barbecue

9 December 4–5.30 pm Junior Dance Awards rehearsal & barbecue

9 December 6-7.30 pm Senior Dance Awards barbecue first and then rehearsal

10 December 6.30-8 pm Senior Awards Ceremony

11 December 11-12 am Junior Dance Awards Ceremony

11 December 2-3.30 pm Junior Awards Ceremony

11 December 6.30-7.30 pm Senior Dance Awards Ceremony

LOST PROPERTY

At the Awards’ rehearsals we will have all the lost property (and there’s a lot) displayed on tables. Please ensure your child checks the display and takes their items of clothing home. After the rehearsals we will be taking the lost property to Life Line – nothing will be kept except NAPA uniforms that will be washed and put on our Second Hand rack.

RAFFLE SPONSORS

Be sure to get your raffle tickets at the Awards Ceremonies as this is when our major prizes will drawn – a big one each ceremony. All proceeds go directly to our P&F to purchase items that help benefit our students such as the barbecue, purchase of trophies, air-conditioning, and a water bubbler being installed during the holidays. These ladies on our committee work tirelessly in fund raising. Thank you Danielle Sutherland, Janneth Zarate Beltran, Kimberley Janssen and Trina Power.

ARE YOU LOVING NAPA?

We have had so many beautiful emails from parents and students expressing the joy at being at NAPA, the life-changing experiences it’s provided and great praise regarding all our shows. If you love NAPA, we would love you to write a review for our website. Holidays is a great time to find some time to write something so that other children can also enjoy what we provide.

HOLIDAYS

All classes have finished for the year and enrolments are open for next year. Classes will start back the week after Public Schools go back, which will be Monday, 31 January. Our office is now closed until 10 January, although we are around next week if you have any enquiries. It has been an incredible year of achievements and to get to this elite standard takes every ounce of our energy and thought process, so we are in a great need of a holiday. All enquiries will now need to wait until the 10th when we return to set up for another awesome year at NAPA.

We hope you all also have a much-needed rest and time to enjoy your family.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL

From - KIM, LAURIE & LYNN
