NAPA News - Week 8, Term 1, 2023
Dear NAPA Families,
Just a reminder that this upcoming week will be our last week of Term 1 due to the new roof being installed. The builders have promised that this will help reduce the temperatures in the studios so the aircons do not have to work so hard. Please be aware that there is absolutely no access into the building until the start of Term 2 as they will be working right up to two days before, if all goes well. So have a fun last week everyone and a fantastic holiday. Please note that teachers will be putting information on the portal for some classes or you will be receiving emails of things to prepare for next term.
All Shook Up Announcement - Broadway Bound
Congratulations to the Broadway Bound cast of All Shook Up. We are so proud of how you have conducted yourselves throughout the audition process, and cannot wait to see this production come together.
College excursion to Beautiful the Musical
This week, our college students had a great time seeing the pre-view of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, at the Star Casino. It was wonderful for them to see our very own talented teacher, Tim Carroll, playing the role of Barry Mann, and a NAPA graduate, Emily Monsma, who is in the ensemble and understudy for Carol. They were wonderful!!! A big thank you to Tim for organising a Q&A after the show, which was very informative and inspirational. We were very grateful for the performers who gave us their time, especially after just finishing the preview and then having to do the Opening that night.

Working as a Swing - Wise Words
For those of you who don’t know, my daughter, Kim Hudman, is a performer and works in New York. She is currently in rehearsals for the musical Cabaret. A month ago, she was interviewed for Theatre Art Life magazine. This interview has just been released, so I thought I’d share it with you as she gives great insight for students looking for a career as a performer and what it is like to be a Swing. For those of you who do not know what a ‘Swing’ is, it’s like an understudy but they are an off-stage performer that is responsible for covering any number of ensemble tracks. It means they could be covering a large number of roles, tracks and blocking. They can go on any night at the last minute. This is great on a resume and a requires a very versatile performer. Our very own teacher, Hannah Stanton, was a Swing for the musical Matilda. This is a great article for all our senior students to read who are looking for work in the industry.
Senior Tread the Boards
After a term of training in the style of Realism, the students presented some Australian plays last week – see some pics. Auditions will be at the start of next term and audition material will be emailed out as soon as the play has been finalised and we have gained the Rights.
Lost Property
Please check the photos to see if any of these items belong to you as they will be thrown out at the end of term. Lost property is in the games room just behind the canteen.
Uniform Collection
Just a reminder to pick up your uniforms if we have emailed you (as we have some items you ordered in stock) or if you ordered the Basic T-shirts and Boys shorts as they have arrived. These are in Reception, and we would love for you to collect them before the end of term. A few people have asked if they can still order the Basic Range. We will open up a second order in Term 2, and we will let you know the week that will happen. Unfortunately, we cannot do a second order for Activated Industries due to their minimum requirement and the long waiting time. We do have a few items on sale at Reception if you missed out.
Have another great week of learning cherubs, followed by a great holiday.
Best wishes,
Lynn & The Team
