NAPA News - Week 2, Term 2, 2021

Dear NAPA Families,

Welcome back from the Easter holidays, we hope you have all had a wonderful break! A big welcome to our new families that have joined us in Term 2. This term is the start of lots of work ahead.  Most of our productions have been cast and in rehearsal mode. Broadway Kids, Broadway Tweens and Broadway Bound are just beginning their auditions. Last term and the holidays saw solo and duo entries for eisteddfods with more to come in the upcoming eisteddfods along with group entries, so extra rehearsals have been planned. Private lessons are fully booked and last but not least our Canteen is now in full swing with a fantastic menu that fuels our cherubs’ energy levels for the work ahead.

LAST CALL FOR WINTER UNIFORM ORDERS

As the temperatures become cooler, our students will be needing their winter uniforms. This is the last week to order them as we will be closing off orders on Friday 30th April.  These orders can be purchased online from your portals. For those who have ordered the Activated Industry uniforms, we have word that manufacturing is completed and they are on their way and should arrive within the next 2 weeks.

LONG WEEKEND PLANS

As previously communicated, classes will still be running on tonight as normal for this ANZAC weekend, only the College students will be having the day off from their academic studies. However, on Labour Day (Monday 3 May) we will not run classes as so many go away that weekend, but we will be having rehearsals on the Monday for Performance Teams at the following times:

12.00-1.00 15’s Musical Theatre

1.00-2.00 Opens Musical Theatre

2.15-4.15 Opens Tap

4.30-5.30 10’s Small Group Jazz

5.30-7.30 12’s Dance Team

PERFORMANCE TEAM COSTUMES

Parents of Performance Team students please note that costumes will need to be paid for by the end of the month. Some of our sets of costumes that we use for hire are incomplete, meaning that some have not been returned as required. Would everyone please check to see if you have any at home – a great reason to sort out your cupboards and drawers – as we can’t use the sets that our incomplete. This year, we have devised a sign in and sign out procedure to ensure all future hired costumes are returned to avoid this happening again.

COSTUME AND MEDIA FEES

For parents whose children are in Production and Dance classes, please note as stated in your Parent Handbook you do have two fees attached to the class, so these may occur on your statement when required.  Your handbook states:

  • Media Fee – a fee of $35 will be charged to all students in production classes in the term prior to their performance. This fee provides you with a video and photographs of the production.

  • Costume fees – production class costume hire is $15 - $25. The performance team costume hire is $12 - $15 per use. The amount charged within these ranges depends on the type of costume being hired.

These fees will be invoiced when costumes need to be purchased and the term prior to production for the Media Fee.

PERFORMANCE TEAM PARENTS
GET TOGETHER PLANS

A big thank you to Danielle Sutherland who is organising a social get together for Performance Team parents, so new parents can meet our more seasoned families and get to know each other.  This goes a long way in making all the eisteddfods during the year lots of fun for everyone involved.  It is also a great opportunity for new parents to seek answers or advice to any questions you may have. If you have a child in a Performance Team, please ensure you have joined the NAPA Performance Team Facebook group so you can find out the details of this event.

CAST ANNOUNCEMENT - FLESH

Pre Senior Tread the Boards

Congratulations to all the students who did a fine job of their auditions. This is very much an ensemble play meaning that all parts are almost on an equal basis, the casting was more about suitability to the types of characters in the play. Have fun rehearsing young thespians!

BROADWAY KIDS/TWEENS AUDITIONS

Our first Saturday back was rather disappointing as some of our students were unprepared for their audition which will sadly affect their outcome. Many turned up without a CV and some had not even looked at the audition pieces. As previously communicated prior to the holidays, all information regarding auditions is ONLINE. CVs are something we want children to get used to, especially if they do professional work. Production teams use these in the selection process not only for information but to sort into potential roles and for note taking. In future, please ensure your child is well prepared to give them the best chance of getting the role they want. There will be two more weeks of auditions for children who were absent or did not get a chance to read for a role and for call backs. Students who have call backs will be asked to prepare a section of a song that character sings and read again for that role. Students who get a call back will be informed of this after next week’s audition. Well done to those who put in the effort.

IMPROVEMENTS TO OUR FACILITIES

A big thank you to David Willis our singing teacher for decking out our Yellow room to now be a recording studio. Also we have just had our Private rooms and Dance rooms rewired so now they have individual internal light and power switches, whereas previously, teachers had to turn lights on from sources outside of their rooms.

Also thank you to our P&F who purchased a new fridge for our canteen. It all goes to making the NAPA experience even better.

As mentioned before, a new fence and gate will be installed for the safety of our students. It appears that our landlord has organised this to start work on the 24th May so parking will need to be outside of the courtyard when work begins.

Have a great week everyone!
