JUNIOR ACTING FOR STAGE
(Grades 4-6)

This is a fun class and a great way to introduce the world of theatre and the basic fundamentals of screen acting to these young thespians. Throughout this program students will gain: 

  • Stage and camera confidence

  • the ability to work cohesively in a group

  • understanding of the difference in acting for stage and screen

  • understanding of some film industry terminology

  • improvisational techniques

  • basic stage craft

  • development in articulation 

  • improvement in vocal dynamics

  • opportunities to express themselves creatively through movement, facial expressions and voice

  • screen acting skills

  • characterisation skills

  • the ability to adapt their performance to different screen shots

  • awareness of equipment used in filming

  • the ability to build a narrative

WHAT WE DO  

Learning for acting for stage takes place through Drama games and activities. The children will be taken on a magical journey with the use of imagination and role-play. For acting for screen student will be filmed acting in short scenes that will vary according to the camera angle and distance.

WHAT TO WEAR

Students need to wear casual clothing suitable for freedom of movement (e.g. shorts, T-shirts, joggers, sand shoes etc). We ask that students wear their NAPA T-shirts/singlets to classes when possible. 

PLEASE - NO jewellery, thongs, sandals, dresses or skirts.

WHAT TO BRING

Please bring a water bottle.

Please do not bring any other distracting objects into class.


PRE-SENIOR TREAD THE BOARDS
(GRADES 7-9)

Training in this class is centred around refining acting and performance skills in readiness for a performance. Students will develop:

  • increased confidence

  • the understanding of various theatre styles

  • the development of acting techniques appropriate to various styles of theatre

  • voice production techniques

  • accents

  • the ability to express and communicate to an audience through a variety of styles of theatre

  • improvisational skills

  • stagecraft

  • the ability to accept and act upon feedback provided

  • teamwork

  • stylised performance skills

  • audition skills

  • characterisation skills

  • commitment and good work ethics

  • organisational skills

WHAT WE DO

Students in this class will study different styles of theatre and develop the acting skills and techniques associated with the styles being studied. At the end of semester 1 they will audition for a play to be performed towards the end of the year.

NB. There will be extra rehearsals close to production, these will be included in the fees.

WHAT TO WEAR

Students need to wear casual clothing suitable for freedom of movement (e.g. exercise pants, shorts, joggers, sand shoes etc). We ask that students wear their NAPA T-shirts/singlets to classes when possible.

PLEASE - NO jewellery, thongs, sandals, dresses or skirts.

HAIR must be tied back off the face.

SENIOR TREAD THE BOARDS
(GRADES 10-12)

To meet the demands of the highly competitive entertainment industry, this is an intensive, production-based course that requires a high level of commitment, enthusiasm, a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and self-discipline. 

This class develops a high level of skills in:

  • acting in style

  • voice production

  • movement in style

  • improvisation

  • interpreting scripts

  • understanding the subtext 

  • finding the motivation of a character

  • characterisation

  • understanding the requirements in pursuing a professional career as an actor

WHAT WE DO

Students develop their performance skills through exposure to various acting methods, principally the techniques devised by Stanislavsky. Students will perform in a play that challenges the students whilst consolidating and enhancing the skills they have learnt.
